My main tip to Marketing Graduates
I was studying Law at the University of Manchester but then after three months, dropped out and entered into the working world. University just wasn’t for me; I wanted to earn my own money as quickly as possible, so fast forward four-and-a-half years and here I am working for boohooMAN.
I got into social media marketing in my first job after the infamous drop out; running all the social platforms for a local motorcycle company. I then moved on to TheLADbible (now known as LAD Bible Group) where I ran the editorial team for 12 months. I then moved into creating marketing campaigns for brands, which, after nearly two years, led me to global sports brand Umbro. After a short stint there I was asked to join boohooMAN in August last year.
My team and I manage all aspects of the boohooMAN brand, from global marketing campaigns to regional outdoor advertising. We also run boohooMAN’s social media platforms, manage the on-site content, imagery, the blog, and generally anything you’d consider to fall under the ‘brand’ umbrella. I like to think of us as guardians of the brand – nothing leaves this office without one of us seeing it first! Boohoo is a great company to work for – every day is genuinely different – and I could sit here for hours and tell you about all the ridiculous things we get up to. One thing I will say is watch this space!
I have one tip for marketing graduates that an old boss of mine once gave me: be a pest. It sounds strange when taken out of context but it’s been one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever had. The marketing world is fast-paced and tough to get into, so if you’re starting at the bottom (go on, sing it, you know you want to) the best way to get noticed is to put yourself in front of many people as possible. Ask questions, visit different departments, listen to those who’ve worked at your business longer than you. You have to soak up information like a sponge; you never know when you’ll need it.
